National 1

Though there will be National 1 courses produced, equivalent to Access 1, these are rarely used in mainstream schools. On this website Level 1 will refer to courses normally taught to 11/12 year old pupils in first year of Secondary school.

- KS3 || - K9

National 2

Though there will be National 2 courses produced, equivalent to Access 2, these are rarely used in mainstream schools. On this website Level 2 will refer to courses normally taught to 12/13 year old pupils in second year of Secondary school.

- KS3 || - K9

National 3

Though National 3 Qualifications may be used with older pupils, the content is very much at the Introduction to Chemistry level and could be used with pupils S1-S3 (11 - 14yrs).

- KS3 || - K9

National 4

National 4 is the beginning of more specialised Chemistry teaching. Internally assessed mainly. Pupils S3/4 (14/15yrs).

- KS3 || - K9

National 5

Is a specialised Chemistry course designed to take pupils onto Higher level. Externally assessed. Pupils S3/4 (14/15/16yrs).

- KS4 || - K10

Higher

This is the specialised Chemistry course which provides the entrance requirement for many Further Education courses. S5 (16/17 years).

- AS || - K11

Advanced Higher

This overlaps with early stages of Degree courses. Though not essential, this course is aimed at those seriously considering studying Chemistry or related subjects at University. S6 (17/18 years).

- A2 || - K12

Mixed Bag

I'll use this for resources that are not specifically aimed at any particular course and may well be simply for fun.

Regular Users

If you are a regular user of this website, and any of the Resources that I have personally produced, you may like to make a small donation.

Searching For Resources

At the moment, the Search Engine will search all of my websites so expect most hits to be for the older version of my website until I have completely transferred all the resources over.

Updates

Monday, 11 Sep 2017

I'm presently writing Topic 5 - Calculations and Topic 6 - Acids and Bases (working titles, may change).

At that point I'll be rebranding the App as N5ChemTutor1 and will start charging a modest fee for the App. If I achieve sufficient sales, then I will be able to start on N5ChemTutor2.

Monday, 01 May 2017

N5ChemTutor App (1.4.1) is under review and should appear on App store in next few days.
This included Topic 4 - Structure & Bonding

Good luck to those sitting Chemistry Exams on 8th May!

N5ChemTutor App (1.3.1) was launched on App store.
This included Topic 3 - Formula & Equation Writing

Friday, 02 Sept 2016

N5ChemTutor App (1.2.1) was launched on App store.
This included Topic 2 - Atomic Structure and Nuclear Chemistry

Full time teaching - particularly in the build up to the exams - took over, and laterly I've been concentrating on getting ready for the new courses we were starting in June.

See links to some of the newer stuff below.

Chemistry Teaching Resources Update 9

Posted Tue, 12 Feb 2013 16:42:00 GMT by Gordon Watson.

Continuing to work on the Bonding Structure resource. Have set up 'container' files for all the other sections that (at the moment) I'm planning to write. These have been added to the Flash version but, at the moment, are little more than Title pages and a sneak preview of some of the resources I have already made in preparation for these lesons. My next target is Attractions, looking at the various attractions and Bonding within the 5 Structure Groups. However, I have ended up producing an extra lesson on Atomic Models as a precursor to those lessons, which I've uploaded today.

After almost 6 months off school with heart problems, I start my phased return tomorrow so, unfortunately, progress on these resources will inevitably slow down.

Continuing to work on the Bonding Structure resource. Have now completed the 6th Section which covers Ionic Network Members. Both Flash and Video versions uploaded.

Chemistry Teaching Resources Update 7

I knew I would be useless at keeping a regular update going but I promise to try harder. Since my last update, things have changed dramatically - in particular, I decided to abandon the whole layout I had been using and switched to a totally different layout that works better with Devices and also responds better to different Desktops. That has taken months, but in between, I've kept my sanity by producing some new Resources - mainly Videos for Equation Writing Practice and the first few sections of a Bonding Structure Resource that had been on the back burner.

Decided I would next turn my attention to Chemistry Blockbusters. Pure Flash so will not be viewable on Tablets & Phones but too good to not include.

Finalised the CSI Simpsons Chromatography page. Acceptable compromise (use of Tabbed Content) means that all aspects now display as intended on all the browsers including Safari & Chrome. Also been tinkering with the look of the Main menu and Sidebars as well as positioning of Sidebars.

My next page uses a recent project, CSI Simpsons Chromatography, to experiment mainly with the use of a Resource Gallery to show and make available for download Written resources. It also involves Flash and Video objects.

As mobile devices such as ipads and ipads no longer support Flash, I'll be creating pages using HTML5 Video Tag as an alternative to my Flash Video Galleries. Again, I've started with Practical Videos and those applicable to Advanced Higher Unit 1

Attempting to set up an RSS Feed to allow interested parties to stay up-to-date with additions to my website. The Landing page for my website is published but is still very much in the development stage. However, A possible Navigation module is now established along with Level Descriptors (Sidebar Key appears on other pages) and a sidebar for Social Media contacts. An internal Search Engine (powered by Google) is set up to search this new website and my existing websites. Early signs are encouraging.

Mainly for my own use, I'm going to keep a registry of pages.

This will provide access to practice pages and/or pages that cannot, as yet, be properly allocated.
