National 1

Though there will be National 1 courses produced, equivalent to Access 1, these are rarely used in mainstream schools. On this website Level 1 will refer to courses normally taught to 11/12 year old pupils in first year of Secondary school.

- KS3 || - K9

National 2

Though there will be National 2 courses produced, equivalent to Access 2, these are rarely used in mainstream schools. On this website Level 2 will refer to courses normally taught to 12/13 year old pupils in second year of Secondary school.

- KS3 || - K9

National 3

Though National 3 Qualifications may be used with older pupils, the content is very much at the Introduction to Chemistry level and could be used with pupils S1-S3 (11 - 14yrs).

- KS3 || - K9

National 4

National 4 is the beginning of more specialised Chemistry teaching. Internally assessed mainly. Pupils S3/4 (14/15yrs).

- KS3 || - K9

National 5

Is a specialised Chemistry course designed to take pupils onto Higher level. Externally assessed. Pupils S3/4 (14/15/16yrs).

- KS4 || - K10

Higher

This is the specialised Chemistry course which provides the entrance requirement for many Further Education courses. S5 (16/17 years).

- AS || - K11

Advanced Higher

This overlaps with early stages of Degree courses. Though not essential, this course is aimed at those seriously considering studying Chemistry or related subjects at University. S6 (17/18 years).

- A2 || - K12

Mixed Bag

I'll use this for resources that are not specifically aimed at any particular course and may well be simply for fun.

This page is where I will 'tidy up' and host the 'final' versions of my Advanced Higher Chemistry Resources. Most of the resources have already been adapted for Revised AdvH and can be accessed here if I haven't yet aed them to this page.

CfE ADVH Chemistry Update 20

Posted Sun, 27 Nov 2016 13:00:00 GMT by Gordon Watson.

I've (belatedly) updated the Data Book link to download the most recent version (Sept 2016).

Only 3 changes, most significant being an improved version of the colour wheel.

Being limited to only 2 periods a weeek, I've tended to teach to my Notes. However, for Structural Analysis, I'm going to continue with my PowerPoints.

Having revamped most of my Notes over the previous two years for Revised AdvH, I've just stuck with those versions for next 2 Topics

2.3 Structural Analysis Part1

I've had a few requests for Mark Schemes for my Topic Tests but I never seem to have enough time to create proper 'SQA style' digital versions. As a 'stop gap' I've scanned my scribbled versions.

I've scanned them (5 Tests so far) all into a single pdf file. Usual password.

Decided to completely rewrite Kinetics from scratch. With ThermoChemistry severely curtailed and ElectroChemistry removed, I've also decided to do a combined Reaction Feasibility / Kinetics Test.

Having reached end of Unit 1, I've also taken the opportunity to 'tidy-up' the previous Topics - mainly renumbering to make more consistent. Updated versions are on right sidebar (if viewing on a wide screen) or below (smaller screens) and have replaced earlier versions. Similarly, I've added a separate section for the 2015 versions of my Tests. Usual password.

Decided reluctantly that I will need to do a Unit Outcome 1 'just in case'. Decided to adapt from two RSC experiments on pKa values from pH curves, mainly because I have an established method from previous Wine Analysis Investigations.

I've tried to produce a 'bare bones' briefing sheet that leaves them with plenty of their own planning still to do. Would also make a good starter for a final Investigation.

For about the first time since CfE 'rewrite' started, I'm genuinely struggling to keep ahead of my class. As a result, I ended up doing Topic 2 (Transition Metals) with last years version.

Started rewriting Topic 3 (Equilibrium) but have had to abandon half way through, so Part 1 is 'New' while part 2 will be 'Old' as in Revised AdvH version.

Realised (not surprisingly) that the more recent Past Paper Questions that I'd added to the Topic 1 Notes, included questions I'd added to my Test last year. Therefore, I've changed the Test. Usual password.

CfE ADVH Chemistry Update 3

Posted Mon, 01 Jun 2015 23:34:00 GMT by Gordon Watson.

Made a last minute decision to update my Topic 1 Notes prior to meeting class for first time tomorrow. A few tweaks (removal of heisenberg's, more detail on Quantum numbers) plus I took the opportunity to improve the graphics and shorten the text in places. Also went a bit deeper into Atomic Orbitals to prepare ground for 'anti-bonding' molecular orbitals in the Colour Topic.

Was also embarassed that some of questions still date back to CSYS papers. Have included more recent questions (thanks to Mrs Stobo, Stranraer Academy) but have kept the original questions as they are actually still relevant.

Starting CfE AdvH on 2 periods teaching (Theory) in KHS plus 2 periods teaching (Practical) in Jedburgh Grammar. Brave New World. Most materials will remain as rewritten for Revised Advanced Higher, but I still want to tweak some things and freshen up the Exam Questions. In the meantime, the 'almost complete' versions are available at the link below.
