National 1

Though there will be National 1 courses produced, equivalent to Access 1, these are rarely used in mainstream schools. On this website Level 1 will refer to courses normally taught to 11/12 year old pupils in first year of Secondary school.

- KS3 || - K9

National 2

Though there will be National 2 courses produced, equivalent to Access 2, these are rarely used in mainstream schools. On this website Level 2 will refer to courses normally taught to 12/13 year old pupils in second year of Secondary school.

- KS3 || - K9

National 3

Though National 3 Qualifications may be used with older pupils, the content is very much at the Introduction to Chemistry level and could be used with pupils S1-S3 (11 - 14yrs).

- KS3 || - K9

National 4

National 4 is the beginning of more specialised Chemistry teaching. Internally assessed mainly. Pupils S3/4 (14/15yrs).

- KS3 || - K9

National 5

Is a specialised Chemistry course designed to take pupils onto Higher level. Externally assessed. Pupils S3/4 (14/15/16yrs).

- KS4 || - K10

Higher

This is the specialised Chemistry course which provides the entrance requirement for many Further Education courses. S5 (16/17 years).

- AS || - K11

Advanced Higher

This overlaps with early stages of Degree courses. Though not essential, this course is aimed at those seriously considering studying Chemistry or related subjects at University. S6 (17/18 years).

- A2 || - K12

Mixed Bag

I'll use this for resources that are not specifically aimed at any particular course and may well be simply for fun.

At the moment, the Search Engine will search all of my websites so expect most hits to be for the older version of my website until I have completely transferred all the resources over.

Bonding Structures
This is a new (Jan 2013) resource that has been on the back burner but I've recently returned to. It's an ambitious attempt to pull together various strands connected to Bonding Structures to produce a resource I can use with a variety of classes over the next few years.


Bonding Structures - Flash version

This is 100% Flash so will not work on Devices that do not support Flash. This is also, for the immediate future, just a "Dummy" version to give a Preview. It is quite possible that the eventual size of the files involved will make it only suitable as a downloadable Desktop application rather than Web based. However, as I complete sections of the Flash application, I will be producing Video versions which can be viewed on the next Tab.

Update: I'm investigating various options so the "Dummy" version may, at times, be live. Be warned, however, that apart from the Introduction (2Mb) the other completed files are 39Mb and 62Mb so take a significant time to load.

Bonding Structures - Video versions

I'd predict that there will need to be at least 20 videos by the time I have completed the Flash application. As well as providing an alternative for iPad and other device users, smaller 'stand alone' Videos will provide an alternative way of using my resource that may work better for some classes.

I'm also including Application versions for downloading, which should provide the best quality possible.

These are the Resources I presently use in the CfE Materials Topic in S1/2 as a first 'hands-on' introduction to structure. Actual models are used as much as possible, with photographed versions on Posters to supplement. Emphasis is on observation and classification.

These are the Notes from the Elements & Bonding and Compounds & Bonding Topics in Higher Chemistry. While much of this should remain in the new Higher Course, there does seem to be some that is shifting into or overlapping with the N5 course.
